Kane is a young aspiring artist with experience in video production, web design, and game development. He first started designing games in high school on paper. While learning video at the university, making games became more and more prominent in Kane's hobby life. During his second year, he was introduced to board game design and development. This changed the direction of his career. His newfound love for making games translated into other classes. Eventually leading him to make games in Processing, HTML, and Unreal engine.
Kane has since been making games for the past 4 years at the University of Lethbridge. His first major game was Echose of the Abyss. The game takes place in the depths of the sea. It is a puzzle game where the player can pick up and move objects to progress. Kane was the head level and game designer with a team of new media students. The project was completed during covid-19 over discord and sharing files over the web. He was responsible for creating the levels and placing objects. He also had the master file adding a multitude of things made by other team members into the game. Other tasks included, lighting, playtesting, level cinematics, and implementation. Not to mention manning the development process. The game was completed in one semester and takes about three hours to beat.
Kane's second major game is Shadow Lens. a first-person analog horror game set in the 90s. Done alone, this game took 6 months for him to complete, and has no affiliation with the university. Everything from animations, models, vfx, to mechanics, story, and advertising is done by him alone. Shadow Lens is a fictional ps2 game with a haunted origin. In the game, the player collects a plethora of items and consumables to aid in the search for a missing girl. the game has sold over 50 copies since creating and managing the IP on Steam. The game is for sale online for $9.99 American on the steam store. A free demo is also available on the Shadow Lens website. The game builds off of the success of Echoes of the Abyss and remains to be Kanes biggest and most labor-intensive project to date. Creating a barn, log cabin, monsters, grass, rocks, trees, tools, and more. All are textured and animated by Kane. Not to mention the implementation of music, sounds, cinematics, videos, text, and much much more. Later making the game playable on the steam deck.
Kanes latest project is the psychedelic platformer known as Catniptic. Catniptic is a third-person 3d game set in a cat’s dream. In the game, the player cat grows and consumes catnip to progress. The cat becomes more and more powerful with each catnip consumed. The cat learns to shoot lasers, jump super high, walk on two legs, and more. It is a fun contrast to Shadow Lens. This game was designed to meet a larger demographic of people and be more fun. The game was made for his final Advanced Studio project at university. Its exhibition was done early April 2023 at Dr. Foster James Penny Building in Lethbridge AB.
